Keep Sick Days At Bay With Employee Incentives

Filed under: Employee Incentives — Incentive Programs Expert @ 8:14 am

If you’re like most people, you’ve taken at least one “mental health day” away from work. Rather than use up vacation, you call in sick when you’re really not. While this is not at all unheard of in the workplace, it can cost a company a lot of money in lost productivity over time. Keeping fake days at bay is possible when morale is high and workers truly want to report. Employee incentives can help.

So, how can a company boost morale enough to actually make reporting for work a pleasure? There are several things that can be done to make a difference in morale. They include:

Keeping the workplace friendly – Make sure that wherever workers report is friendly and productive. Encourage excellence and foster teamwork among employees.

Making sure pay is competitive – A company doesn’t have to offer the highest pay to enjoy decent morale. It does, however, need to make sure it’s competitive. Workers will just not be happy if they don’t feel compensation is fair for the time and effort attached to the jobs at hand.

Considering benefits – Benefits packages can be costly, but they are valuable tools for recruiting and retaining employees. Even modest packages can go a long way in making workers feel more secure and happy.

Rewarding excellence – Saying thank you to workers who go above and beyond is a very big deal. Verbal thanks on a regular basis is very important. Actually showing appreciation through an employee program, however, can really put action behind the words.

Rewarding attendance – Having a separate program to reward attendance can be an excellent way to keep workers in their posts when they don’t really need to be out. Even small incentives can go a long way on this front.

When employees feel secure, happy and important in their positions, they tend to want to report to work. Sick days are necessary in all workplaces, but keeping them at a minimum can be important for the bottom line. An employee rewards program can work wonders.
