Employee Incentives Keep Them Coming Back For More

If turnover in your office is so high that you can’t keep up with all the comings and goings, it’s time to take a close hard look at your operation. While a certain degree of attrition is expected in any workplace, high levels are signs of real problems. Remedying them is possible when certain steps, including the introduction of employee incentives, are taken.

To reduce unwanted and often costly turnover, consider these areas closely:

Salary level – If your basic salaries are so low that local competition is smoking you, it is very much worth reviewing this area for a change. Workers, even loyal ones, simply cannot afford to continue working for businesses that don’t pay what they should. This issue is becoming even more acute as the economy gets tighter and tighter.

The benefits package – If workers don’t have adequate benefits to cover themselves and their families, no amount of employee recognition will keep them in place. People who put in 40 hours a week or even more expect to be able to care for their families properly. If benefits are not offered or they are mediocre at best, improving this area can help with turnover.

The atmosphere – While coming to work is serious business, it doesn’t mean that employees need to be miserable eight hours a day. If the environment in the workplace is uncomfortable, harsh or even discriminatory, workers will look elsewhere for jobs.

The rewards – Employees like to be told they are doing a good job – especially when they are. To make sure this happens, an employee incentives program can make a big difference. This will enable employers to not only say thank you, but also show their gratitude.

When reducing turnover is a necessary project, there are a number of things many companies can improve upon. From basic pay and benefits to offering employee incentives, they can all combine to keep the best workers in place.
