Employee Recognition Programs Have Many Uses

If you think employee recognition programs are just for a few, select overachievers, think again. The best programs are well-rounded and provide viable incentive opportunities for everyone within a company. In fact, employers can make sure that their rewards program designs are such that everyone has a chance to truly earn a moment in the spotlight.

Employee recognition programs can even have multiple purposes. Some of the most common reasons why employers put rewards program designs into place include:

Outstanding performance – This is, of course, one of the biggest reasons to institute employee incentives. When a company’s top achievers garner recognition, they tend to continue achieving. Plus, the example set can often lead others to follow in their footsteps.

Training performance – Employees who undergo especially grueling training programs, for example, might be given access to a rewards program to pat them on the back for their success. This is a token way to thank employees for their time and efforts, but it can pay off with a greater degree of loyalty and appreciation for an employer.

Safety awards – Some companies use employee recognition programs to highlight those employees who have gone above and beyond to ensure safety records. This is very important considering the side benefits of a safe workplace. For their efforts, employers tend to receive lower worker’s compensation insurance premiums and fewer lost work days.

Longevity awards – Many companies opt to establish employee recognition programs to honor employees who have shown loyalty to a company. In this type of setup, employees who have worked X amount of years are honored for their time.

An employee recognition program is often seen as a very good investment of time and money for employers. When making sure the right actions and behaviors are highlighted among employees matters, these programs can very much pay off. Employees do appreciate occasional pats on the back that happen to come with tangible rewards, as well.
